About
Hanno is located in the southwest of Saitama Prefecture, about an hour from Tokyo. Three-quarters of the city is covered by forest, and you can enjoy beautiful scenery such as riverheads and valleys.
Coexisting with nature, industries such as forestry, textiles, and pottery have developed in Hanno City.
In particular, the area has been famous for its forestry since the Edo period, known as "Nishikawa lumber." Since fires often occurred in the city of Edo, people would build rafts out of lumber and float them down the river to transport it, and so the lumber came to be called "Nishikawa lumber" because it came from the west of Edo.
Let's make our own chopsticks using Nishikawa wood while reminiscing about the Edo period.
Yamane Sake Brewery, founded in 2019, is committed to brewing sake in traditional wooden barrels made from Nishikawa wood. In order to pass on the tradition to the future, you can experience the entire sake brewing process, which is usually not open to visitors.
When you get tired, you can relax by watching the mountain stream or enjoying vegetarian cuisine at the 1,000-year-old Takedera Temple.
